Immigration and community cohesion

As a Brentford ward councillor (2006-10) I experienced firsthand the pressure that immigration has put on housing, schools and healthcare infrastructure.

This is why I back proposals to:
• Immediately reintroduce exit checks at all ports and airports.
• Secure Britain’s borders by giving a National Border Force police powers.
• Enforce our immigration system through rigorous checks on businesses and a crackdown on rogue employers who profit from illegal labour.
• Prioritise deportation efforts on criminals, people-traffickers and other high-priority cases. Law-abiding families should be able to earn citizenship, as well as people who have been in Britain without the correct papers for ten years, but speak English, have a clean record and want to live here long-term to earn their citizenship. This route to citizenship would not apply to people arriving after 2010.

Alongside this we must recognise the strength in the diversity of communities such as London Borough of Hounslow, and the great achievements of communities such as ours. LB Hounslow has been recognised with the 'Beacon Council' award for its work in bringing the community together to understand and respect our differences, as well as the many more things we hold in common.
